New Medical Devices and Appliances Database (EMDDB) launches next week

01.07.2026 | 14:24

The new Medical Devices and Appliances Database (EMDDB) will be available to users from 6 July 2026. The purpose of upgrading the database is to simplify data submission and management for users and to improve the collection, management and publication of data on medical devices and appliances.

The upgraded database improves data quality, transparency and usability for both the applicant’s and the processor’s perspective.

To make submitting data and documents to the updated database faster and smoother, we recommend making sure you have the following before creating an account:

  • An authentication tool – ID-card, Mobile-ID, Smart-ID, or an eID from another EU member state

  • If you do not have an authentication tool, you will need a valid email address to create an account

  • The details of the company on whose behalf you will be using EMDDB

  • A power of attorney (if you are not listed as a board member of the company in the Business Register)

The power of attorney should include the following information:

  • the name of the company being represented under the authorisation

  • the name of the authorised person

  • the scope of the authorisation, i.e. which actions the person is authorised to perform on behalf of the company in EMDDB

  • the role in which the person may represent the company in EMDDB (submitter or administrator);

  • any restrictions on the authorisation, if applicable

  • the validity period of the authorisation

  • the signature of the person granting the authorisation

Webinars introducing the updated EMDDB were also held on June 29 and 30. The training recording is available for viewing HERE and provides a good overview of the new database's main functions, as well as the process of creating an account and linking it to a company.

Also review the new EMDDB statute and its annex in the Riigi Teataja.
